Josh Seim is broadly interested in the sociologies of work, medicine, welfare, punishment, and more. He also frequently writes about pedagogy and ethnographic methods.Â
His research has appeared in American Sociological Review, Social Problems, Sociological Methods and Research, Social Science and Medicine, Punishment and Society, Journal of Contemporary Ethnography, Teaching Sociology, and other outlets.Â
His first book, , was released in 2020 by University of California Press. His second book, The Welfare Assembly Line: Public Servants in the Suffering City, will be released by University of California Press in Spring 2026.Â
