Profile

Josh Seim is broadly interested in the sociologies of work, medicine, welfare, punishment, and more. He also frequently writes about pedagogy and ethnographic methods.聽

His research has appeared in聽American Sociological Review,聽Social Problems,聽Sociological Methods and Research,聽Social Science and Medicine,聽Punishment and Society,聽Journal of Contemporary Ethnography,聽Teaching Sociology, and other outlets.聽

His first book,聽, was released in 2020 by University of California Press.聽His second book,聽The Welfare Assembly Line: Public Servants in the Suffering City, will be released by University of California Press in Spring 2026.聽
